Honoring Gary Balletto: Our 2025 Community Humanitarian Award Recipient 

The DaVinci Center is proud to present this year’s Humanitarian Award to Gary Balletto, a decorated world champion boxer, business owner, philanthropist, and true inspiration to our community.

Born and raised in Providence, Rhode Island, Gary’s athletic career was nothing short of remarkable. A champion both in and out of the ring, he secured three major titles—USBF, EBA, and the IBU World Lightweight Title—retiring with an impressive 31-3-2 record, including 26 knockouts. He won the hearts of many as a fan favorite on the hit reality TV series The Contender.

Yet, what truly sets Gary apart is his unmatched generosity and resilience. Known as the people’s champion, he has always been someone willing to give the shirt off his back to help others.

In June 2013, Gary faced his toughest battle yet—a spinal cord injury that left him paralyzed from the chest down. But true to his spirit, he refused to let adversity define him. Instead, he turned his life’s greatest challenge into a mission of hope and empowerment for others.

In 2017, he founded The Gary Tiger Balletto Foundation, raising awareness and providing resources for those with spinal cord injuries and neurological conditions. His passion led to the opening of Rhode Island’s first and only adaptive gym, in collaboration with the Cranston YMCA, allowing wheelchair users to exercise in an inclusive environment alongside family and friends.

Beyond his foundation work, Gary continues to be an advocate, mentor, and resource for individuals with spinal cord injuries, inspiring many with his infectious smile, unwavering positivity, and relentless drive.

A devoted father, grandfather, fiancé, and family man, Gary lives each day with a simple yet powerful goal:
